Proverbs 22:6 – Train up a child in the way he should go, even when he is old, he will not depart from it.
We’ve really enjoyed Eileen Spinelli’s Miss Fox’s Class book series featuring Miss Fox teaching her childlike animal students. Her lessons have benefits beyond the classroom. The text is fun and the illustrations provide colorful and expressive artwork. They target ages 4-7.
Peace Week In Miss Fox’s Class ~ When Miss Fox gets tired of her student’s squabbling, she decides to mandate a Peace Week, where no fighting or squabbling will be allowed for an entire week. Miss Fox asks the students to help her come up with the rules and they are encouraged to practice their good behavior throughout the week in the classroom, as well as at home. The format of the book helps children learn about the days of the week.
Miss Fox’s Class Earns A Field Trip ~ Miss Fox’s Class has earned a trip to Roller Coaster Planet but they are required to raise the money to pay for the bus ride and tickets. Addition and subtraction concepts are presented as the class puts money into the money jar and takes money out to pay for mishaps that occur as they go about their fund raising efforts.
Miss Fox’s Class Shapes Up ~ When Miss Fox realizes her students are tired and sluggish, she decides to help them embrace a healthier lifestyle through better nutrition and exercise in their routine. She asks Nurse Weasel, Mr. Moose the principal and Mr. Mole the custodian to work with them as the class ‘shapes up’ in time for the school’s Field Day competitions.
Miss Fox’s Class Goes Green ~ When Miss Fox comes to school riding a bicycle, her students ask if something happened to her car, which results in a response that leads to a discussion about being eco-friendly or “green.” Miss Fox shows her students how simple changes/actions make a big impact on the environment and soon her class encourages the entire school to adopt eco-friendly practices at school, as well as at home.
Miss Fox’s Class Get It Wrong ~ Recently published, this is the latest installment of the series. When Miss Fox’s class sees her getting into a police car with Officer Blue Fox and acting suspiciously, they think she’s in trouble. What they don’t realize, is that Miss Fox and Officer Blue Fox are actually planning something! Mixed in with a sweet ending are the laughs we’ve come to expect from Miss Fox’s Class. It’s a great book to use for a lesson on gossip and rumors.
