Proverbs 22:6 – Train up a child in the way he should go, even when he is old, he will not depart from it.
If your child wears eyeglasses, as mine does, they might need some reassurance and encouragement to overcome worries about wearing them. These two books provide a kid-friendly reminder that wearing glasses is not such a bad thing after all.
Who Wears Glasses? by Ana Galan ~ This Scholastic Reader Level 1 Book is a great way to bring up the topic of glasses with children. It presents a variety of animals and the glasses they wear to suit their style. The simple and large font text is easy for early readers to follow. My son really enjoyed the fun illustrations and was encouraged by the story’s message that wearing glasses is a natural thing for anyone, even animals!
Arthur’s Eyes by Marc Brown ~ In typical Marc Brown humor, this book presents Arthur struggling to see and facing the fact that he needs glasses. But when he shows up to school with his new glasses, his friends (who do not wear glasses) begin to tease him and he gets self-conscious. When he decides to stop wearing them, it leads to other problems. With the help of his teacher, Arthur realizes it’s okay to wear glasses and his friends learn to support him in the end.
