I have a confession: I thought pumpkins were just a Fall thing. I was wrong.

Kids’ Pumpkin Projects: Planting & Harvest Fun by Deanna F. Cook showed me that a pumpkin theme is something we can follow throughout the year. It offers about a dozen ideas for each of the seasons (50 total) including indoor/outdoor projects and activities, historical and scientific information, how to grow and harvest pumpkins, songs, stories, step by step instructions and recipes. The book targets ages 4 to 10 but adults will enjoy it just as much.

Some of my favorites were:

  • Spring: Gardening with the Three Sisters (pumpkins, corn and beans) & the Pumpkin Family Tree
  • Summer: A Chinese Pumpkin Lore & Watercolor a Pumpkin
  • Fall: Various ways to decorate a pumpkin & lots of recipes such as Pumpkin Cornbread and Pumpkin Trail Mix
  • Winter: Storing Pumpkins and Seeds & The Native American Birthday Pumpkin story

You are welcome! I haven’t forgotten your blog, even though it seems like I haven’t been there as much. I’ve been dealing with an internet company that just keeps losing its connection…everyday!
